President’s giant cutouts above the law – Police

Unknown parties had destroyed the giant cutouts of the President Mahinda Rajapakse which held sway illegally at Marawela, Kakkapaliya and Muguruwatawana . Such displays are prohibited under the election laws as the President is a candidate for the forthcoming Presidential elections

Display of Cutouts , banners and posters are illegal after the nominations date is over. Despite it the President’s giant cutouts , banners and posters are displayed with complete impunity across the country even though the Police are expected to remove them .
 

The worst irony of it all is the very law enforcers who are expected to remove them are engaging in restoring and protecting them in gross violation of the laws. At Marawela, Kakkapaliya and Muguruwatawana , the Police had been busy restoring those damaged cutouts.
