The government withdrew fishing and diving restrictions in the seas off the eastern coast.

Fishermen are now allowed to set out and return at any hour of the day, said east governor Rear Admiral Mohan Wijewickrama.

A permit system for the fishermen of the east has accordingly been suspended.

According to him, only suspicious craft will be subjected to security checks and no fishing will still be allowed in the Trincomalee Harbour high security zone.
