City firm to dub Lankan movie
P K Balachandran COLOMBO: A Chennai-based company has undertaken to dub and distribute all over India Road From Elephant Pass, Sri Lanka’s official entry for the Oscars next year.
Southern Digital Screenz (SDS) run by Usman Faiz would dub the film into Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannda and Hindi, and release it in 1000 digital cinemas in India, the director of the film, Chandran Rutnam, told Express here.
“Dubbing in Tamil is going on in Chennai, and the Tamil version of the film will be ready for release by January next,” Rutnam said. The other versions will be released later. The film, based on a prize- winning English novel by Nihal de Silva, is the story of the strange relationship between a Sri Lankan army officer and a female LTTE cadre after circumstances threw them together in the midst of war in north Lanka.
“An army officer’s routine assignment to pick up a Tamil woman informant near Jaffna turns into a nightmare when the LTTE launches a massive attack on an army camp at Elephant Pass. The two adversaries are forced to escape together through the rebel-held Wanni jungles, and later, across Wilpattu National Park. Captain Wasantha (Ashan Dias) and the Tamil terrorist Kamala (Suranga Ranawaka) gradually overcome distrust and enmity. But a shocking revelation confronts the captain when he reaches Colombo.” Rutnam said, leaving it to the viewer to discover the rest of the story.
